SENSORY FRIENDLY PREVIEWS

Free Sensory-Friendly Previews

With guidance from the Kearsarge school district's Student Support Services, NLBP Education will host three sensory-friendly previews in the Barn Playhouse theater this summer. Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning, or cognitive disabilities.

Our sensory-friendly modifications will include:

  • Lower sound levels (no startling noises)

  • Lights remain on a low level in the theatre

  • No strobe lights

  • Guests are free to move around, talk, make noise, and leave the theater at any time

  • Audience members are limited to about 1/6 of the typical capacity.

  • Actors will come onstage before the show to introduce themselves separately from their characters.

  • A short synopsis of the show will be shared with the audience before the performance, so everyone knows what to expect.

These previews will be held during the final dress rehearsals of our Children's Theater Series shows. This allows us to offer the experience for free and to limit the number of people in the building.
