The Barn is going all out for  Shrek The Musical! Whether it’s costumes, makeup, sets, or choreography, this is one of the largest productions ever done on the Barn stage. Come see for yourself!

And that means that there’s a lot going on behind-the-scenes…. Here’s a sneak peek of our Acting Interns and guest artists in rehearsal for Shrek:

Don’t miss the almost 1,500 unique costume pieces that have been built by our extraordinary costumes department, almost all of which have been put together completely from scratch.  You may just be seeing the best work our costumes team has ever done…..

Our award-winning costume designer, Allison Crutchfield, has been working on this show for months. Below you can see a series of her artistic renderings, alongside the real-life actors who will be wearing them on the Barn stage.

Justin Colombo* as Shrek

Hannah Rose * as the Dragon

Pinoccio Fitting

Kevin Dort as Pinocchio

Fiona Fitting

Talia Suskauer as Fiona

And costumes isn’t the only department going all out for this show…. Out in Intern Alley, our longtime set designer Jordan Janota (another award-winner) is directing a team that includes a technical director, carpenters, props master, paints artisan, and technical interns to bring the forests and cities of Duloc to the Barn. Jordan is another one that’s been working on the production since last spring; his renderings were created digitally…

…while the process of turning them into reality onstage is as old-fashioned and analog as possible – lots of hard work, sweat, and precision artistic craftsmanship.

Coming soon: time-lapse videos of Shrek’s two-hour makeup process and the 19-hour changeover from How To Succeed… to Shrek, and more costume renderings, and much more! Stay tuned!
