SUMMER CAMPS FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS

2017 programming has been announced and registration is now available!

This summer we will be offering five weeks of camps, from July 10th through August 11th. Each week offers opportunities for children ranging from age 6 to 11; each class will culminate in a performance on the Barn stage. Camps are taught by Barn staff, members of the Acting Intern Company, and professional guest artists. We look forward to having your family join us this summer!

Camps are held Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM or 1:00 PM-4:00 PM.

New this year: Full-Day options! In weeks 2, 3, and 4, we have morning and afternoon options for all campers. Those who want to spend the whole day working on their theatrical talents can sign up for both morning and afternoon options, and pay a reduced “full day” price for both camps. Students will stay from 9 AM – 4 PM with a supervised break from 12 – 1 PM for lunch (not provided).

2017 Camp Prices
Half-Day Camper: $175.00 per week
Full-Day Camper: $300.00 per week (available weeks 2-4 ONLY)

Full-summer discounts are available for students attending the FULL FIVE WEEKS of 2017 Summer Camps.

SUMMER 2017 CAMPS

WEEK ONE: July 10-14

RISING STARS
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Campers in this session will work on introductory vocal and dance skills for performing in contemporary musicals. Working on technique and teamwork, students will gain experience and confidence as they learn and perform today’s favorite Broadway songs.

YES! AND…
9-11 year olds

In this brand new camp, performers will learn the skills of improvisation and spontaneity through games and loosely structured sketches. This camp will culminate in a fun, comedic performance much like “Whose Line is it Anyway” that’s sure to make the audience (and actors) laugh!

WEEK TWO: July 17-21

BROADWAY BABIES
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This camp teaches our youngest performers about acting, singing, and dancing in Broadway’s most beloved musicals. Campers will gain experience in performing by working on songs and dances in the tradition of classic Broadway shows such as Oklahoma! and Guys & Dolls!

This camp offers an in-depth look into small-group scene work. Campers will develop their acting, improvisation, and playwriting skills as they rehearse and perform scenes from the best of Broadway’s plays, as well as completely original works of their own! Register by mail // Register online

BARNIE CARNIES
6-11 year olds**

Come one, come all! This exciting new camp offers performers an introduction to a variety of circus skills, from basic acrobats, to magic tricks, to juggling, and more! For the child who’s always dreamed of running away to join the circus! Register by mail // Register online

**NOTE: our afternoon camps are suitable for ages 6-11. Campers will participate in  whole-group projects, but will also spend time in smaller, age-specific groups for focused work and activities throughout the week.

WEEK THREE: July 24-28

CHARACTER CORNER
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This camp teaches young actors how to create fun and engaging characters through movement-based acting and scenes. Campers will have the opportunity to play their favorite stage or movie character or create a character all their own! Register by mail // Register online

BARN’S BEST MUSICALS
9-11 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This camp will celebrate the 85th Summer Season of the New London Barn Playhouse with award-winning songs and shows from the last 5 seasons! Campers will enjoy singing and dancing to Barn favorites, including Singin’ in the Rain, Kiss Me, Kate, and Shrek! Register by mail // Register online

TECH WEEK
6-11 year olds**

This camp is perfect for those with an interest in learning about ALL of the elements that contribute to creating the magical world of theater. Campers will have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of technical theater aspects including make-up effects, prop and puppet making, scene painting, and more! WEEK FOUR: July 31 – August 4

FROM PAGE TO STAGE
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This camp introduces young actors to the wonderful world of theater through their favorite stories and books. Confidence and creativity will flourish as each child explores their talents and learns the process of bringing a story to life! Register by mail // Register online

TRUE CHARACTERS
9-11 year olds

This camp offers an opportunity for young performers to strengthen their acting skills and create dynamic characters based on famous characters from Shakespeare to Disney. Through improv exercises and rehearsed scenes, campers will learn how to stay in the moment, interact with the other characters, and stand out from the crowd! Register by mail // Register online

BROADWAY DANCE
6-11 year olds**

A returning favorite! This camp offers performers of all experience levels a chance to dance in the style of Broadway musicals. With a focus on technique and stylized movements, campers will build their skills and learn routines to favorite Broadway songs! Register by mail // Register online

WEEK FIVE: August 7-11

SILLY SCENES
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Campers in this session will learn about tellings stories on stage, both from their imaginations and from their own lives. Learning about characters, setting, and plot, they will create original scenes that they will prepare and perform! Register by mail // Register online

POP MUSICALS!
9-11 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
A returning favorite! Work on your “triple threat” skills—acting, singing and dancing—in this fun musical theater camp focused on contemporary pop musicals like Hairspray and HamiltonParticipants will work on group numbers with possible solos and individual songs as well. HOW DO I SIGN UP?

There are two ways to enroll your child in a Barn summer camp:

1) ONLINE: BEGINNING MARCH 6. To register and pay for a camp online, click on one of the “register online” links in the camp descriptions above. You may then add more camps by clicking “Continue Shopping” and scrolling through the calendar. Alternatively, click here for the full calendar of camp offerings (each camp is listed on the Monday of the given week). Please note: a $3.95 per camp fee will be charged for each online camp registration placed. This fee is imposed by and goes directly to our ticketing software company. 

2) BY MAIL: BEGINNING FEBRUARY 20. To register and pay by mail, please click here to download the paper registration form. You can print this form, fill out and return it with a check to the address below. Checks should be made out to New London Barn Playhouse; please note the full name of your child and the name of the camp in the “memo” section. If paying for multiple children, please note that as well. 

*RELEASE FORM: Every camper must also submit a completed release form (download the form HERE). This can be brought to the first day of class, mailed to the address below, or emailed to camps@nlbarn.org. We will also have copies available on the first day of the session.

PLEASE NOTE: Enrollment is only guaranteed with tuition payment. Subject to availability, it may sometimes be possible to temporarily hold a spot in a camp for your child if you are not yet 100% sure of your plans. Additionally, a tuition forgiveness policy exists for all our education programs. Please email Camps Director Kayla May at camps@nlbarn.org to discuss this possibility and for more information.

CLASS LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

All camps are held at the New London Outing Club’s Indoor Center at 114 Cougar Court. If you drive south down Main Street, passing the Barn Playhouse on your right, you need to go to the main stop light in town (Pleasant Street, at the Library and Lake Sunapee Bank), and turn left. After two buildings, turn left again onto Cougar Court. Pass the Elementary School on your right, and the second building houses the Outing Club. Please go in the main entrance to meet the instructors and Education staff in the lobby. Camps will be held in the gym, the Music Room behind the gym, and the second classroom on the left down the main hallway.
