SUMMER CAMPS FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS

This summer we will be offering five weeks of camps, from July 11th through August 12th. Each week offers opportunities for children ranging from age 6 to 16; each class will culminate in a performance on the Barn stage. Camps are taught by Barn staff, members of the Acting Intern Company, and professional guest artists. We look forward to having your family join us this summer!

Camps are held Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM or 1:30 PM-4:30 PM.

Tuition is $170 per camper, per session.

SUMMER 2016 CAMPS

WEEK ONE: July 11-15

ONCE UPON A STORY
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Campers in this session will learn about tellings stories on stage, both from their imaginations and from their own lives. Learning about characters, setting, and plot, they will create original scenes that they will prepare and perform! Register online

POP MUSICALS!
9-11 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
A returning favorite! Work on your “triple threat” skills—acting, singing and dancing—in this fun musical theater camp focused on contemporary pop musicals like Legally Blonde and Wicked. Participants will work on group numbers with possible solos and individual songs as well. Register onlineRegister by mail

BROADWAY DANCE III
12-16 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
In this camp, experienced dancers will learn choreography to exciting musical theater songs. With an emphasis on technique and performance, this camp will strengthen campers’ skills as musical theater dancers.

WEEK TWO: July 18-22

READY, SET, PLAY!
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This camp introduces young actors to the wonderful world of theater. Confidence and creativity will flourish as each child explores their talents and learns about teamwork in this fun camp where playing is what makes the play. Register onlineRegister by mail

BROADWAY DANCE II
9-11 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Campers will kick up their heels and leap through the air in this class that teaches dance technique through fun choreography! Students will learn routines set to favorite Broadway numbers, and develop their skills as musical theater performers. Register onlineRegister by mail

BROADWAY BOUND
12-16 year olds
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
In this brand new camp, advanced theater students will develop their skills in singing, dancing, and acting. Campers will learn the necessary tools and techniques to succeed as a musical theater performer in any production or audition setting. Register onlineRegister by mail

WEEK THREE: July 25-29

SINGING STARS
6-8 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Campers in this session will work on introductory vocal skills for singing in musicals. Learning about technique, dynamics, and projection, students will gain experience and confidence as they learn and perform classic Broadway songs. Register onlineRegister by mail

TRUE CHARACTERS
9-11 year olds

This camp offers an opportunity for young performers to strengthen their acting skills and create dynamic characters. Through rehearsing scenes, campers will learn how to stay in the moment and interact with the other characters, while exploring what it means to act as larger than life characters. Register onlineRegister by mail

SHAKESPEARE SHOWTIME
12-16 year olds
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Campers in this session will learn to love the world and language of William Shakespeare; from sonnets to plays to hilarious insults, they will explore his profound and captivating language. Students will improve their acting skills and speech technique by studying and rehearsing scenes from some of his greatest plays. Register onlineRegister by mail

WEEK FOUR: August 1-5

BROADWAY DANCE I

ADVANCED SCENE STUDY
12-16 year olds
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
In this class for the more experienced actor, campers will study and rehearse scenes from various contemporary and classical plays. With an emphasis on understanding character and playing action, each student will learn the process to make a scene come to life on stage and play believable characters. Register onlineRegister by mail

WEEK FIVE: August 8-12

BEGINNING BROADWAY
6-8 year olds

This camp teaches our youngest performers about acting, singing, and dancing in musicals. Campers will gain experience in performing and storytelling by working on songs, poems, and dances in the tradition of Broadway shows! Register onlineRegister by mail

PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP
9-12 year olds
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
In this new version of a returning favorite, young playwrights will learn the craft of creating character, conflict, and connections as they write original plays. This class will culminate in a reading of the students’ plays, with performances by members of the 2016 Barn Company! Register onlineRegister by mail


HOW CAN I SIGN UP?

There are two ways to enroll your child in a Barn summer camp:

1) ONLINE: To register and pay for a camp online, click on one of the “register online” links in the camp descriptions above. You may then add more camps by clicking “Continue Shopping” and scrolling through the calendar. Alternatively, click here for the full calendar of camp offerings (each camp is listed on the Monday of  the given week). Please note: a $3.95 per camp fee will be charged for each online camp registration placed. This fee is imposed by and goes directly to our ticketing software company. 

2) BY MAIL: To register and pay by mail, please click here to download the paper registration form. You can print this form, fill out and return it with a check to the address below. Checks should be made out to New London Barn Playhouse; please note the full name of your child and the name of the camp in the “memo” section. If paying for multiple children, please note that as well. 

Every camper must also submit a completed release form (download the form HERE). This can be brought to the first day of class, mailed to the address below, or emailed to camps@nlbarn.org. We will also have copies available on the first day of the session.

PLEASE NOTE: Enrollment is only guaranteed with tuition payment. Subject to availability, it may sometimes be possible to temporarily hold a spot in a camp for your child if you are not yet 100% sure of your plans. Please email camps@nlbarn.org to discuss this possibility.

CLASS LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

All camps are held at the New London Outing Club’s Indoor Center. If you drive south down Main Street, passing the Barn Playhouse on your right, you need to go to the main stop light in town (Pleasant Street, at the Library and Lake Sunapee Bank), and turn left. After two buildings, turn left again onto Cougar Court. Pass the Elementary School on your right, and the second building houses the Outing Club. Please go in the main entrance to meet the instructors and Education staff in the lobby. Camps will be held in the gym, the Music Room behind the gym, and the second classroom on the left down the main hallway.
