COME PLAY WITH US THIS SUMMER!!

NEW LONDON BARN PLAYHOUSE

CAMPS FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS

The camps have been so successful over the last two years, and with your encouraging feedback, we are once again EXPANDING!! This summer we are offering five weeks of camps, 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm Monday-Friday. The cost is $165.00 per week.  Each week will have opportunities for kids ranging from age 6 up to 18, divided based on age, and will culminate in a performance for family and friends. Camps are taught by a combination of Barn staff, members of the Acting Company, and professional guest artists! We look forward to having your family join us this summer!

Tuition is $165 per session. Online registration is now available! Please find the link at the bottom of this page to sign up for the summer camps. One online registration must be completed for each camper.

WEEK ONE: July 8-12

FROM PAGE TO STAGE
6-10 year olds
9am-12pm
Using favorite children’s books as inspiration, this class will teach young performers ways to tell stories onstage, and to create larger than life characters. Stories will be brought to life in original ways as students use their imaginations and grow in confidence, skill!

THE WRITE TRACK
11-16 year olds
9am-12pm
Campers in this playwriting session will work on creating their own 10-minute plays. Exercises will be introduced to inspire the young theater artist to learn about the basics of storytelling and what makes for good plays in order to help them create original pieces. This class will culminate in a performance of the students’ plays performed by members of the 2013 Acting Company!

WEEK TWO: July 15-19

PLAY TIME
6-9 year olds
9am-12pm
This class will introduce young aspiring theater artists the fundamentals of acting. Confidence and friendships will flourish in this beginners’ class for young performers. Theater games teach teamwork, encourage creativity, and provide a means for your child to find his or her individual voice in a new and exciting way.

ACTING UP
10-12 year olds
9am-12pm
Campers in this session will work on acting skills and will rehearse scenes in small groups for the final presentation. Beyond the basics, this class will explore the fundamentals of interacting with other characters and being involved in a scene with your emotions and actions. Each young actor will work on his or her stage presence and build confidence as a performer.

TRUE CHARACTERS
13-18 year olds
1pm-4pm

This camp for the advanced actor will explore the power of creating dynamic characters onstage and in auditions. Through monologues and scenes, actors will explore heightened situations and tackle creating believable emotions and interesting characters. Using texts from great plays, actors will get their chance to portray some of theater’s most fascinating and famous characters.

WEEK THREE: July 22-26

BROADWAY DANCE I
6-9 year olds
9am-12pm

This camp will give an introduction to the dance styles and skills of big Broadway musicals! Starting with the basic techniques of dancing and learning choreography while they dance the week away in learning routines to their favorite Broadway songs!

POP MUSICALS!
10-12 year olds
9am-12pm

Work on your “triple threat” skills—acting, singing and dancing—in this fun musical theater camp focused on contemporary pop musicals like Legally Blonde and Wicked. Participants will work on songs of their choosing as well as group numbers. Work on auditioning skills and stage presence!

AUDITION BOOT CAMP
13-18 year olds
1pm-4pm

In this camp for the advanced theater student, campers will work to improve their audition skills. This camp will give teens the tools to succeed in their auditions for their high school musicals or college theater programs. Learn to make a lasting impression and rock that audition using your voice, your song, your acting, and your professional confidence.

WEEK FOUR: July 29 – August 2

GOTTA SING! GOTTA DANCE! GOTTA ACT!
6-9 year olds
9am-12pm

This fun musical theater camp will teach the basics of acting, singing, and dancing. Participants will work on songs of their choosing as well as group numbers. Campers will work on their musical audition and performing skills while strengthening their voices and stage presence.

BROADWAY DANCE II
10-16 year olds
9am-12pm

Everyone will be cutting footloose in this class that teaches campers dance technique, and keeps them dancing and learning lots of fun new choreography! They will learn dances to great Broadway production numbers, and strengthen their skills and dancers and performers.

POP MUSICALS!
10-12 year olds
1pm-4pm

WEEK Five: August 5-9

OUR STORIES
6-10 year olds
9am-12pm

In this camp, students will explore how stories around them can become theater. Plays and performances come from the long tradition of story telling, and campers will continue that by making theater from their own lives. Collaborating with each other, they will create original scenes and culminate the week by performing them!

WHEREFORE ART THOU, SHAKESPEARE?
11-16 year olds
9am-12pm

This weeklong session will focus on the basics of Shakespeare! Work on sonnets and scenes, fling insults and create swordfights! Explore some of the best writing in the English language and improve your acting skills, command the power of your voice, and develop a grandly stylized stage presence.

Checks should be made out to New London Barn Playhouse. The remaining balance of $140 per camper per camp is due on the first day of each session (or can be sent in earlier in the mail or by dropping it off at the Box Office during the summer).
