Junior Intern Company
The Junior Intern Company is comprised of 25 young performers aged 11-18 who, over the course of nine weeks, rehearse, build and perform plays for young audiences. The Junior Interns not only play all of the roles in each of the productions, but they also help build the sets, choose the costumes and make the props. Interns also get a chance to work with professional guest directors, choreographers, and actors, and the Barn’s Artistic Director, Carol Dunne.
This year’s Junior Intern Season includes:
• Tom Sawyer • That’s Princess…with a Pea! • How to Eat Like a Child •
• Much Ado About Nothing • Into The Woods Jr. •
The company rehearses Mondays through Fridays, rehearsing 9am-4pm (including a lunch break), with performances on select Thursdays and Saturdays. The full program runs from June 17th through August 17th, with each production getting a two-week period to rehearse and perform (the last production gets a third week). Junior Intern productions are directed and choreographed by Education Director, Josh Feder, as well as guest teaching artists. Other events, such as performances at the Market on the Green, “JI Nights” for the mainstage shows, and outings to other local performances and events will be announced throughout the summer. Junior Internship is also available for teenagers in the technical aspects of theater, to work with our Stage Manager and Technical Director to help with the building and painting of the sets and props, as well as managing the running of backstage and the light/sound boards during the performances.
Besides mounting highly professional shows for consistently sold out houses, the program fosters individual growth in performance skills as well as nurturing an ensemble experience where each member supports and encourages their castmates. Theater games and educational exercises, in conjunction with the work toward each production, develop the performance skills of each member of the company.
AUDITIONS
Auditions will be held April 6th and 7th from 1:00 – 5:00 at Whipple Hall in New London, NH. AUDITIONS ARE NOT AT THE BARN AS IT IS TOO COLD! Whipple Hall is the corner of Main Street and Seamans Road. Please sign up for an audition by emailing josh@nlbarn.org. For auditions, please prepare a short passage of a song, as well as a poem/monologue of your choice. Each should be under a minute. For teens interested in Technical Junior Internship, please sign up for an audition slot to interview with the staff. If you cannot make these auditions, please email josh@nlbarn.org for more information or to learn how to audition at another time.

PROGRAM FEE: The program fee is $600.00 for the full 9 weeks, payable at time of registration. We are able to keep this extraordinarily low fee with help from our Annual Fund. We feel that it is important that theater education be affordable as we train tomorrow’s theater lovers and performers. However, some scholarships are available. If your family would like to be involved for part of the Junior Intern Season, partial company membership can be arranged and pro-rated on a case by case basis with Josh Feder.
